Guide to Choosing a Hotel in Madrid
Madrid is the capital of Spain and has approximately 5 million inhabitants. The city has a great range of hotels available in all parts of the city and in all categories and it is important that you take into consideration the location of the hotel and not only the category before deciding upon a place to book.

If you like going out at night then the central area around Sol and Gran Via is one of the best places as there are both plenty of restaurants, bars and nightclubs within easy walking distance. This area can be a bit noisy especially during weekends so if you plan to go early to bed this is properly not the best area. Here you can find hotels in all categories from small family hotels to luxury hotels.

If you like to be in a central but more quiet area we can recommend the area next to the Retiro Park which is also called the museum area as it is next to the famous museums El Prado and Reina Sofia. In this area you can still find plenty of nice restaurants but it is more quiet. Compared to the area around Sol and Gran Via the hotels here are a bit more expensive.

Another popular area especially for business people is Paseo Castellana where there are many hotels in upper categories and also a lot of nice restaurants, bars and clubs. This is a more modern part of Madrid and don't have many tourist attractions but is located with easy access to the historic centre (10 minutes by metro) and to the airport.

Apart from these central areas there are many nice hotels around 20-40 minutes in public transportation from the historic centre in nearly all directions. These hotels are normally cheaper than hotels in the centre but if you plan to go out at night you will have to spend money on taxis so you will most likely end up spending the same amount.
